5 Things You Should Know Before Your Filler Injection

Fillers are an amazing way for you to create the look that you have always dreamed of without having to go through the painful recovery of a plastic surgery. The results of filler are immediate and recovery is minimal. In this article I hilight five important topics that you should consider before your treatment.

Physical Prep Before Treatment for Best Post Procedure Results

I ask my patients to refraining from aspirin, Motrin, Aleve, fish oil, multivitamins, and vitamin E for about a week before your appointment, as each can act as a blood-thinner and contribute to post injection bruising. Alcohol is also a contributor to bruising as it thins the blood, so if you could skip that martini at dinner the night before your treatment that would be helpful! 😉

Even if you follow all of these suggestions bruising is still common but that is a small price to pay for the incredible outcome that we will achieve! A little makeup goes a long way.

Mental Prep Before Treatment For a Realistic Expectation

How big do you really want your lips? It’s one thing to have a cute kissy face in a photograph but it’s another to have a kissy face every day for 6 months to a year! You can always add more product but you can not take it away. For my ladies who desire a dramatic lip I suggest that we build to achieve this look over a series of treatments. Going from thin lip to a Kardashian lip is not reasonable nor will you be happy with the results. Start with 1 – 2 syringes and book a follow-up appointment, at the follow up we can look at your results together and take your lips to the next level if that’s the look that we are trying to achieve.

If you have a very thin lip and you are afraid that you will not be a candidate for lip filler… think again! By using a step by step process we can start small and gradually build your volume. Different Fillers Achieve Different Results

Fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that is formed naturally within our bodies. Hyleronic acid bonds to water and is attracted to moisture, it is naturally metabolized by our bodies over 6 months to a year. At our medspa we use Juvaderm and Restylane brands, which are premium quality FDA approved fillers. Within these two brands there is a variety of products each of which achieves a different effect based on the size of molecule within the filler. Smaller molecules when injected help to hydrate and relieve fine lines around the mouth while larger molecule based fillers are used to create a dramatic plump. During our consultation we will evaluate your current look and work together to determine the perfect product to achieve the best outcome.

Filler Doesn’t Last Forever

If you love your new lips unfortunately they will not last forever so take lots of pics! The hyaluronic acid used in filler is metabolized by your body over time, so you can expect results to last from 6 months to one year depending on how quickly your body metabolizes the product. If in the rare occasion you are not pleased with the results you come back in and we can dissolve the product with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that melts away hyaluronic acid rapidly and safely.
